Great Bowden Recital Trust (GBRT)

Music for all in South Leicestershire and North Northamptonshire

From community choirs and ensembles, to our Junior X Factor talent competition and massed choirs for primary school children, we aim to inspire, connect and share the joy of music and music-making with people of all ages in our local community.

All surplus funds go into our grant programme which helps talented young people afford the cost of their singing and instrumental lessons. From local concerts to unforgettable performances across Europe, as well as workshops, day trips, and weekend events, GBRT offers inspiring musical experiences, lasting friendships, and opportunities you'll never forget.

Join a thriving musical community where everyone is welcome

Our five welcoming choirs and ensembles bring together more than 150 enthusiastic members who enjoy making music as part of a supportive team. With no auditions and minimal entry requirements, everyone is welcome.

Apply for funding to support your musical journey

GBRT offers grants to help young singers and instrumentalists in financial need with the cost of music lessons. Awards are made annually in September and provide support for one academic year, with students welcome to reapply each year.

Showcase your talent and gain confidence on stage.

Whether you're a singer, instrumentalist, group, composer or songwriter, everyone in school years 1-13 is welcome to enter GBRT Junior X Factor, with no previous experience required. You just need to live within 20 miles of Market Harborough.

Why Music Matters

Making music with others has been proven to have many benefits for mental and physical health including helping to reduce isolation, anxiety and depression and increasing the levels of 'happy' hormones dopamine and serotonin. We asked our members what it means to them to be involved in their choir or ensemble and this is what they said. We are always happy to welcome new members to our choirs and ensembles so if you feel inspired to have a go please do get in touch!
